The Chestergate pub in Stockport have raised almost £2,000 to buy and install a defibrillator on the exterior of the pub to protect the whole community!
Steph, manager of the Chestergate, realised there wasn’t one near to the pub and with a growing elderly clientele and footfall increasing in the area; they identified a real need for a defibrillator which will be vital in saving lives in the future.
A variety of initiatives were set up to help raise the money including a charity day at the end of August where much of the final total was raised. Steph contacted local businesses in the area to donate prizes, experiences, beauty treatments, meals and much more which encouraged people to come along to the charity day and spend money on raffle tickets.
In addition to this, football cards were sent around the pub and there was a generous amount donated from an anonymous customer which totalled £1,934. This has enabled the pub to pay for the defibrillator with a lockable box, as well as the installation of the device.
The defibrillator was installed over the weekend and there was a grand unveiling party today (Monday 16th October) where karaoke queen, Molly cut the ribbon to unveil the device; followed by an afternoon of drinks, food, dancing and of course, karaoke!
Steph Armstrong, manager at the Chestergate commented:
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers and local community, and this has enabled us to raise the money in such a short space of time. The goal was to raise enough money by the end of 2023 with plans to purchase the defibrillator early January next year, but we have smashed that target and managed to get it much earlier!
These devices save lives every day and are so important, even more so when you look at where we are located and all the development that is taking place around us. We’re throwing a party on Monday to unveil it and Molly who is adored by everyone in the pub will be cutting the ribbon!”
The defibrillator was installed and unveiled on Monday 16th October at 12pm at The Chestergate, 66 Mersey Square, Stockport, SK1 1NP
