It might not challenge Adele or Elton for the festive number one, but The Hawk pub in Wigan have recorded their very own cover of a Christmas classic to raise money and collect donations for local business, Fur Clempt.
Manager of the Hawk, Claire, along with team members, Chris, Gaynor and Beth decided to record their own version of Band Aid’s ‘Do they Know it’s Christmas’ after winning some money in a competition. The four of them headed to a recording studio in Manchester and sang and recorded the song within a day. The song was then released through social media and the donations started flooding in!
All donations and funds raised through their Just Giving page were sent to Fur Clempt, a Wigan foodbank fighting against food waste and hunger. The foodbank is local to the pub and does a lot for the Wigan community so as a community pub, it was a no brainer to work closely with them.
Claire Bolton, Manager of the Hawk commented:
‘It all started with us winning £100 through a competition run by Blind Tiger Inns. Rather than spend the money on team party like we usually do, we wanted to do something good with the money and give something back, especially as it’s Christmas.
We have two natural singers and two not so natural. Chris toured with Westlife and Beth is also a great singer whilst Gaynor and I aren’t so great but it’s all about taking part and enjoying it which we really did! We showed it on a big screen to all the customers in the pub on Saturday and they loved what we had done! I am just so proud of us and our community.”
