Blind Tiger Inns once again raised the bar for outrageous ideas – this time at The Grosvenor in Manchester.
The Oxford Road venue, a firm favourite with students, has been at the heart of Freshers’ Week celebrations. But things reached new heights (and new levels of madness) when the team set out to smash the world record for the longest ever Jäger train. The goal? Over 3,100 Jägerbombs lined up in a domino rally style chain reaction.
The challenge began at 5:30am, with the team spending more than 10 hours carefully positioning and filling over 6,000 glasses with Kick and Jägermeister. By the time the last shot glass was in place, the team were ready – and more than ready to stop seeing Jäger in their dreams.
With anticipation building, the music cut out and hundreds of students packed onto the balcony to watch history unfold. The Grosvenor’s General Manager, Martin Lambe, was given the honour of setting the train in motion after a tense countdown.
3…2…1… and it was off. Glasses clinked, Jägerbombs cascaded, and the crowd roared as the chain sped through the venue. But then – disaster struck. One line faltered, the train broke, and the world record slipped away. Despite creating well over 2,500 Jägerbombs in seconds, the title remained just out of reach.
Still, there was one huge silver lining: the students of the University of Manchester and MMU were left with around 3,000 free Jägerbombs to enjoy before the venue was reset.
“Never a dull moment at The Grosvenor,” said Lamb. “It didn’t go to plan this time – but you can bet we’ll be back in 2026, bigger and better, and ready to claim that record.”
