January is notoriously the quietest month of the year in the hospitality industry and as a group, we also experience our quietest trading periods in this month. That said, we are proud to announce that we have paid out a record amount of bonus in our quietest month of the year!
An incredible 15% of pubs earned full, ‘clean sweep’ bonus this January, meaning they are already a third of the way to Dubai after just one month!! To add to this, over half of our pubs were paid £1,000 plus in bonus which sets a fantastic precedent for 2024.
The race to Dubai was announced to managers early January, informing them that if three ‘clean sweep’ bonuses were achieved this year, they would be on a plane to Dubai in 2025. With a handful of managers heading to New York City in just over a weeks’ time, the excitement and determination amongst managers to be on next year’s trip is infectious!
The bonus scheme isn’t measured on turnover and instead looks at other KPIs such as GP%, cost control and AWP income. Despite this, sales were stronger than ever in January, proving that providing unique experiences and great value in well maintained pubs means we continue to be the best in our locality.

“Seeing managers achieve their full bonus is the best feeling and even better in a month where things are traditionally tougher. We paid out almost 60% of our bonus pot in January and the goal is to get that to 90% this year which is well within our reach. As with most business owners, I don’t like paying bills, but I love paying bonuses!
There would be nothing I’d love more than to see every single pub manager on that plane to Dubai next year and some are already a third of the way there. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store!”
