They may have one of the coolest Jukeboxes on Mathew Street, if not the whole of Liverpool; but there is more than meets the eye to this vinyl jukebox that pays homage to The Beatles.
The Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely-Hearts Club jukebox not only attracts customers to the pub, it also donates all it’s money to the Paper Cup Project in Liverpool. Founded by Michelle Langan, The Papercup Project provides food, hot drinks, clothes and support for homeless people in Liverpool City Centre every week and relies on donations and support from local businesses.
The Grapes is now proud to be one of those local businesses; generating funds and raising awareness about this awful issue on the streets of the UK.
Manager of the Grapes, Karen Strickland said: “I have been following the work of Papercup Project on Facebook for a while and really wanted to help. Over the Christmas period in 2018 we donated selection boxes and we are delighted that the funds from our jukebox will go directly to helping the homeless in our city.”
Since then, Karen and other members of the Blind Tiger team have been able to join the Outreach team on the streets of Liverpool; witnessing first hand how important the money is in terms of helping people.
Michelle Langan added: “It is wonderful to have the support of a pub on Mathew Street, as we help a lot of people on that street. Karen, her staff and customers have shown real compassion and kindness by offering their help.”
