In 2021, Blind Tiger Inns took the decision to install a defibrillator at their Mathew St venue, The Grapes and what a good decision it turned out to be as in March 2022, the defib was used twice, saving two lives!
On 5th March, the defibrillator was used for the first time by North West Ambulance Service after a gentleman suffered a sudden cardiac arrest not far from the pub. The Grapes was the closest place with a registered defibrillator and thankfully, this saved the gentleman’s life.
Just three weeks after it’s first use, the defibrillator was used again on Saturday 26th March on another person who suffered a heart attack nearby to the pub. Thankfully, the defib did its job again and saved the life of another individual.
The defibrillator is registered on ‘The Circuit’ which notifies emergency services where the closest defibrillators are. The device status has now been re-registered as ‘Emergency Ready’, ready to use in the future.

I am so glad we took the decision to have the device installed as it has already saved two lives in the short space of time that we’ve had it. Hopefully it won’t need to be used again in the near future, but it is ready to go if it does!”
