The Rising Sun hosts ‘Party in the North Pole’ event to send 100 local children to Lapland

The Rising Sun in Hazel Grove played a vital role in making children’s dreams come true this Christmas as they hosted a fundraising weekend to send 100 local children to Lapland.

The event, named ‘Party in the North Pole’ was a three-day event consisting of Christmas markets, live music, food, drink, competitions, and raffles all to raise money and awareness for local charity, ‘When you wish upon a star’.

The pop-up Christmas markets were all local, small businesses selling a variety of things from candles and wax melts, Christmas cards, artisan sweets, crochet items and many more items, perfect for Christmas gifts and stocking fillers. The stall holders paid a small fee to pitch at the pub over the weekend and 100% of this money was donated to the charity.

In addition to the Christmas markets, there was live music, a children’s choir, visits from Disney characters and a trumpet player to keep everyone entertained over the whole weekend! They even had a visit from award winning actor, Danny Miller!

Multiple raffles were held with prizes donated from local businesses, customers in the pub and anyone willing to offer products and services that could be raffled off. The final total is yet to be confirmed but the pub has raised close to £1,500 with an additional £1,000 due to come from Barclays Bank.

Julie Bowers, Manager of the Rising Sun commented:

“We’re so proud to have hosted our ‘Party in the North Pole’ fundraising weekend which has been months in the making. Our team member, Lottie has worked incredibly hard in pulling it all together and we’re just so happy with the turnout and the amount of money we have managed to raise.

We’re contributing to sending 100 children to Lapland for Christmas and that is a truly incredible example of what can be achieved when the whole community come together to support a common goal.”

Marketing, Communications and PR Lead from When You Wish Upon a Star, Emma-Kate also commented:

“The incredible support and donation from The Rising Sun will directly contribute to fulfilling our mission — granting wishes to children facing life-threatening and terminal illnesses. This support serves as a beacon of joy, offering a much-needed respite for both the children and their families who endure the challenges of constant hospital visits, treatments, and the absence of everyday family activities. This donation will empower our families to create cherished memories together, providing the solace and happiness they truly deserve.”
