The Hawk pub in Wigan is attempting a Blind Tiger Inns first; to cycle the length of the UK from John o’ Groats to Land’s End and back again for local charity; Wigan & Leigh Hospice.
Wigan & Leigh Hospice care for people who have been diagnosed with an illness which is no longer curable and is close to the hearts of many within the community, so it was the perfect charity to raise money and awareness for.
To complete the mammoth challenge of cycling the length of the UK; the pub needs to cycle a total of 1,940km throughout November, which equates to just under 65km a day! Definitley no easy feat!
Set up at the front of the pub are two exercise bikes, kindly donated from Wigan Council for the month of November and customers can come and clock up some miles whenever the pub is open. Ten days in, there have been users ranging from 5 to 74 years old and they are already ahead of their daily target so it’s looking very promising!
We will be following them every step (or pedal) of the way and report back once they have completed their challenge at the end of November.
Claire Bolton, Manager of the Hawk commented:
“Our pub is at the heart of the Hawkley Hall community, and we can’t think of a better way to raise money and awareness for a local charity than getting the whole community involved.
Not only is it raising money for a great cause, but it is great for everyone’s physical and mental health too. We have set ourselves a target of £1,000 and we have quite a way to go so appreciate every penny people can donate!”
