The Chestergate in Stockport is never far from the news, being host to some of the most incredible Karaoke and talent competitions on a weekly basis. This week, however, it was the outside of this infamous pub that was getting all the attention thanks to a new mural on the building.
Just weeks after the opening of the Stockport Interchange bus station, this area of the town centre is really seeing a lot of positive developments and the Chestergate didn’t want to be left out. What better way to not feel left out than commissioning a 50ft high mural to be painted on the building?
Given the nature and popularity of the entertainment in the pub, the phrase “Walk In, Dance Out” seems to fit the bill perfectly, and is certainly hitting the mark with locals and fans of the pub alike.
The mural was designed and painted by street artist Jano, who is famous for his artwork inside and outside of pubs. He has been commissioned by Blind Tiger Inns, owners of the Chestergate pub at many of their 20 pubs, including the Trafford at Old Trafford and more local to the Chestergate, the Rising Sun in Hazel Grove.
The team at the Chestergate say the interest in the mural has been phenomenal, with manager of the pub, Steph Armstrong telling us:
“We always like to do something a little bit different at the Chestergate and go that extra mile. With all the work going on around the centre of town following the opening of the new bus station we thought the mural would add a bit of class and excitement from our side of the road!
We love it and our customers love it too; so it’s fair to say everybody is happy!”
