As a pub operator with communities at our heart, we’re proud to shine a spotlight this week on one of our standout venues that’s going above and beyond to support its local area.
While all of our pubs take pride in offering the kinds of community-focused events and activities you’d expect, The Queens in Aintree is proving to be a true community champion by stepping outside the norm.
Best known for its vibrant atmosphere during the Grand National and other racing events, The Queens is showing it’s much more than a one-trick pony (no pun intended!). Under the leadership of manager Erin, the pub has become a genuine hub of community value.
In recent months, Erin has launched a weekly “Combat Loneliness” evening—an initiative designed to bring local residents together in a relaxed and welcoming environment. There’s no expectation to spend money or buy a drink. The focus is simply on bringing people out of their homes to connect, chat, and enjoy a bite to eat and a chat in good company.
“Not everyone has someone to talk to every day,” Erin explains. “We know that a friendly smile and a chat can make a huge difference to someone’s day. We started the event, and now we have more and more people joining us each week. It’s been amazing to watch it grow.”
And Erin isn’t stopping there. With the school holidays approaching, she’s launched the Queens Garden Gang, a free initiative for local children. Throughout the summer, kids will have the chance to plant flowers, paint murals, and take part in fun, hands-on activities that keep them engaged and learning new skills—at no cost to parents.
Martyn Reid, the area manager, shared his admiration for Erin’s work:
“I’ve been working alongside Erin for a few months now, and her positivity and passion for the community are truly inspiring. From our Easter community festival to all the new initiatives she’s launching, The Queens is becoming a real home-from-home for so many people.”
